Iran is reportedly preparing a negative response to the latest U.S. initiative aimed at reviving the nuclear deal. An Iranian diplomat close to the negotiation team in Tehran told Reuters that the Islamic Republic is finalizing its rejection of the American proposal.
According to the diplomat, the Iranian leadership views the offer as ‘one-sided’ and ‘unsuccessful.’ He added, ‘Iran’s response may be interpreted as a rejection of the American initiative, as it does not address Iran’s interests.’
The U.S. administration had put forward a framework that, according to Western media, includes restrictions on uranium enrichment and increased oversight by the IAEA, in exchange for easing economic sanctions. However, Tehran appears to consider the terms insufficient and lacking in mutual concessions.
Following multiple failed negotiation rounds and heightened tensions in the region, expectations for a breakthrough remain low. Iran’s rejection may further strain relations between the two countries and complicate diplomatic efforts in Vienna and New York.
As of now, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has not issued an official comment.
