Israel Gains Strong G7 Backing Amid Escalating Iran Tensions

The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) nations have issued a unified declaration in support of Israel’s right to self-defense, following escalating hostilities with Iran. The joint communique, released at the conclusion of the G7 summit in Canada on June 17, also described Iran as the “principal source of regional instability and terror” and emphasized that the country “must never obtain a nuclear weapon.”

The G7 statement comes amid a sharp rise in tensions between Israel and Iran, triggered by Israeli airstrikes on Iranian targets, which reportedly caused heavy casualties and infrastructure damage. Iran responded with missile strikes against Israeli cities, resulting in at least 24 deaths in Israel and over 220 reported fatalities in Iran. These developments have drawn international concern over the potential for broader regional conflict.

“We affirm that Israel has a right to defend itself,” the G7 leaders said in the statement. “We reiterate our support for the security of Israel.” The declaration also urged restraint on all sides and called for the protection of civilians, while reaffirming a commitment to preserving global energy market stability amid the ongoing crisis.
