Mike Waltz Removed as National Security Advisor Following ‘SignalGate’ Leak

U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz has been dismissed from his position in President Donald Trump’s administration following a major security breach known as “SignalGate,” according to multiple reports from Reuters, Fox News, and other reputable outlets.

The incident reportedly occurred in March 2025, when Waltz mistakenly added The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, to a Signal group chat where senior U.S. national security officials were discussing classified plans for airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen. The accidental inclusion of a journalist in a sensitive military conversation sparked intense backlash within the administration and led to mounting pressure for Waltz to step down.

Sources indicate that Waltz, along with his deputy Alex Wong, was asked to resign on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Although the White House has not officially confirmed the dismissals, insiders described the departures as the first major shake-up of Trump’s national security team during his second term.

In the wake of the scandal, several names have been floated as potential successors, including Steve Witkoff, a close Trump ally and current special envoy on Iranian and Ukrainian affairs.

The White House has yet to issue a formal statement on the matter.
