North Korea has issued a strong condemnation of U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed “Golden Dome” missile defense system, describing it as a provocative initiative that threatens global security and could escalate tensions in outer space.
The “Golden Dome” is envisioned as a comprehensive missile defense shield, utilizing satellites and space-based interceptors to detect and neutralize incoming missile threats, including those from adversarial nations such as North Korea, China, Iran, and Russia. The project is estimated to cost $175 billion and aims to be operational within three years.
In a statement released through the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korea’s Foreign Ministry criticized the plan as “the height of self-righteousness and arrogance,” accusing the U.S. of seeking to militarize outer space and pursue unilateral dominance.
The statement further warned that the implementation of the “Golden Dome” could trigger a global arms race in space and destabilize strategic balances, particularly among nuclear-armed states.
China has also expressed serious concerns regarding the “Golden Dome,” stating that the initiative could turn outer space into a war zone and undermine global arms control efforts.
Despite the criticism, President Trump has defended the “Golden Dome” as a necessary measure to protect the United States from emerging missile threats, emphasizing its importance for national security.
As the U.S. moves forward with the development of the “Golden Dome,” international observers and experts continue to debate its implications for global security and the potential for increased militarization of space.
