U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States is prepared to cease its mediation efforts between Russia and Ukraine if no significant progress is made in the coming days. Speaking in Paris after meetings with European and Ukrainian officials, Rubio emphasized that the window for diplomatic resolution is narrowing.
Despite Ukraine’s acceptance of a proposed 30-day ceasefire, Russia has rejected the plan and intensified its military actions, resulting in civilian casualties in cities like Kharkiv and Sumy.
The Paris discussions marked the first high-level engagement involving U.S., Ukrainian, and European leaders since President Donald Trump took office. While the talks were described as constructive, Rubio warned that without tangible progress, the U.S. would redirect its focus to other global priorities.
Further negotiations are anticipated in London next week as diplomatic efforts continue to seek a resolution to the conflict.
