During the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, President Trump expressed his admiration for the late pontiff, stating, “He was a very good man who loved the world, and he especially loved people who had a hard time, and that’s good for me.”
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, President Trump paid tribute to Pope Francis, writing, “Rest in Peace Pope Francis! May God Bless him and all who loved him!”
The Vatican has announced that funeral events following Pope Francis’ death will last for nine days. Additionally, a conclave to elect the next pontiff is expected to take place within a month.
Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, was the first Latin American and Jesuit pope. Elected in 2013, he was known for his humility, advocacy for the marginalized, environmental activism, and efforts to modernize the Catholic Church.
