Motorola Solutions has unveiled a new initiative aimed at increasing transparency in the use of artificial intelligence within public safety systems. Starting July 24, 2025, the company will begin labeling its AI-powered devices — including body-worn cameras and surveillance systems — with visible and digital disclosures explaining how the AI functions.
These labels will detail what the AI is designed to do — such as facial recognition or behavioral analysis — the type of data it was trained on, and whether decisions are fully automated or involve human oversight. This information will appear both in the user interface and on the company’s official website.
According to Motorola, the move is designed to rebuild public trust amid growing concerns over AI in law enforcement. The newly labeled systems are expected to roll out beginning in September across the U.S. and countries with AI governance frameworks already in place.
The company also plans to launch an online transparency center, providing open access to information about the algorithms used in its surveillance products, including data sources and model design.
Executives say this is the first step toward setting a new industry standard for ethical AI use in public safety technologies.
