The United Arab Emirates has signed a strategic agreement with OpenAI to roll out ChatGPT access across the country, marking a major step in the Gulf nation’s push to become a global hub for artificial intelligence.
The partnership, announced on Sunday, will see ChatGPT integrated into public services, educational platforms, and tech development zones throughout the Emirates. Government officials described the move as part of a broader effort to accelerate digital innovation and improve service delivery through cutting-edge AI tools.
OpenAI’s collaboration with the UAE follows a significant wave of investment from the United States aimed at scaling up the company’s international presence. The deal also includes plans for local adaptation of GPT technologies, including Arabic language optimization and cultural alignment for regional use.
Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, the UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, called the agreement a “milestone in ensuring equitable access to advanced AI for all residents.” He noted that the country’s long-term vision includes building sovereign AI capabilities while leveraging global expertise.
The UAE has previously made headlines as the first nation to appoint a dedicated AI minister and launch national strategies focused on AI research, ethics, and governance. The new partnership with OpenAI further cements its ambition to lead the Middle East in technological advancement.
No financial details of the deal were disclosed, but both parties confirmed plans to begin implementation within the coming months.
