Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is set to unveil its second electric vehicle, the YU7 SUV, marking a major step forward in its automotive ambitions. The official launch is scheduled for May 22, with the company promising a model packed with cutting-edge technologies aimed at competing in the increasingly crowded EV market.
Building on the momentum of its first EV release earlier this year, Xiaomi has positioned the YU7 as a high-performance smart SUV designed for both domestic and international consumers. Early teaser images reveal a sleek design with aerodynamic contours, a minimalist interior, and an AI-powered cockpit interface.
Industry insiders suggest that the YU7 may integrate Xiaomi’s proprietary HyperOS system and feature autonomous driving capabilities developed in partnership with leading Chinese AI firms. The SUV is also rumored to support ultra-fast charging and long-range battery performance—key selling points in the race for global EV dominance.
“The YU7 signals Xiaomi’s serious intent to carve out space in the premium EV segment,” said Fang Lei, an automotive analyst at China EV Research Group. “They are no longer just an electronics brand—they’re now an automaker with a bold vision.”
Xiaomi’s EV division, led by founder Lei Jun, has invested heavily in research, manufacturing infrastructure, and brand positioning. The YU7 is expected to be priced competitively to challenge local players like BYD and international rivals such as Tesla and Hyundai.
The launch comes amid a broader acceleration in China’s EV industry, which is expected to account for more than 50% of global electric car sales in 2025. Analysts will be watching closely to see how the YU7 performs in the face of rising competition and evolving consumer demands.
