United Airlines announced it will reduce its schedule at Newark Liberty International Airport by approximately 35 flights per day, citing persistent congestion and operational challenges at the major East Coast hub.
The airline confirmed that the cuts will primarily affect domestic routes and are aimed at improving on-time performance and minimizing delays. A spokesperson said United is coordinating with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to implement the changes.
The adjustments are expected to take effect over the coming weeks. United emphasized that no destinations will be eliminated entirely from its network, and the cuts will involve frequency reductions rather than route cancellations.
Newark has long been plagued by air traffic delays, compounded in recent months by staffing shortages and increased travel demand. The FAA recently urged airlines to trim their schedules at major New York-area airports to ease congestion during peak summer travel months.
