German architecture studio LAVA has revealed the master plan for the Expo 2030 World Exhibition, set to take place in Riyadh from October 1, 2030, to March 31, 2031.
The upcoming district will be located near King Salman International Airport and is designed not only as a venue for the global event but also as a future commercial and entertainment hub of the Saudi capital.
According to the plan, the site will be organized around a “central river” and divided into five clusters resembling petals, connected by bridges. The architects drew inspiration from Saudi Arabia’s natural landscapes — rivers, wadis, and rock formations.
The area is surrounded by major transport routes and will be located next to several large-scale projects: the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (designed by Zaha Hadid Architects) and the King Salman Stadium (designed by Populous), currently under construction ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Expo 2030 in Riyadh is expected to become one of the most significant international events of the decade, alongside the FIFA World Cup and the Asian Winter Games, both of which will also be hosted by Saudi Arabia.
