By decree of Iran’s Supreme Leader, former Minister of Defense and Interior Ahmad Vahidi has been appointed acting commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to reports from Iranian state media.
Vahidi’s appointment comes amid escalating tensions and reports of the death of the current IRGC chief, Hossein Salami, in an Israeli strike. Although this information has not been officially confirmed, the leadership change suggests a state of emergency within Iran’s military command structure.
Ahmad Vahidi is one of the most prominent figures in Iran’s security establishment. He has been subject to international sanctions for his involvement in terrorist operations, including the 1994 bombing in Buenos Aires. His return to an active military leadership role may indicate a more hardline stance that Iran intends to adopt in the coming days.
