Aquaman, Indian Edition: Cop Celebrates as Floodwaters Swallow His Home

When most people face a flood, they rush to save furniture, lift rugs, and call their insurance agent. But one police officer in India took a different route — he celebrated the water rising through his home as a sacred guest’s arrival.

Sub-inspector Chandradeep Nishad from the city of Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), where the Ganges river recently overflowed, has become a viral sensation after posting a series of videos showing him joyfully embracing the floodwaters that invaded his house. In one clip, he stands knee-deep in water, still in uniform, performing a religious ritual — offering flowers to the muddy currents and thanking “Mother Ganga” for her visit. “I am blessed that you have come to my doorstep,” he says with hands folded in prayer.

In another video, he stands waist-deep inside his flooded home and declares, “Thousands go to her, but I was lucky — she came to me.” In yet another clip, he theatrically dives into the water from a first-floor window. Later, he appears again, this time jumping from his second-floor balcony alongside two young women, proudly captioning the video: “Our girls are no less than boys!”

For the record, Mr. Nishad is not just a police officer. According to his bio, he’s a national-level swimmer and currently serves as a personal security officer at the Allahabad High Court. Perhaps that’s why he appears perfectly at ease in a house full of water — quite literally like a fish in water.

The videos have racked up tens of millions of views and sparked a mix of admiration and concern. Some users hailed him as “Aquaman of Prayagraj,” while others jokingly commented that the river now offers “home delivery for washing away sins.” Still, others pointed out the environmental irony: “If you truly respect the river, maybe don’t add to its pollution by swimming in sewage.”

Regardless of where public opinion lands, one thing is clear: Chandradeep Nishad has demonstrated a rare talent for turning a natural disaster into a moment of devotion, performance — and possibly, a stroke of viral genius.
