An Australian woman has been arrested in Singapore, nearly two years after allegedly stealing perfume from a duty-free store at Changi Airport. The incident reportedly occurred in 2023, but the suspect was apprehended upon her return to Singapore in April 2025.
According to reports, the woman is accused of shoplifting perfume valued at approximately 1,000 Singapore dollars (about 740 USD) from a retail outlet within the airport’s transit area. The theft was captured on surveillance footage, and a warrant for her arrest was issued shortly thereafter.
Singaporean authorities detained the woman upon her arrival at Changi Airport. She is currently facing charges under Singapore’s Penal Code, which stipulates that theft can result in imprisonment for up to three years, a fine, or both.
The case is scheduled to be heard in court later this month. Singapore maintains strict laws regarding theft, and incidents involving foreign nationals often attract significant attention.
