German Tourist Detained Outside U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv

A 27-year-old man, reportedly a German tourist, was detained by Israeli police in Tel Aviv following a disturbing incident near the U.S. Embassy. According to official statements, the suspect left a backpack containing flammable substances and glass bottles—materials commonly used in the preparation of Molotov cocktails—near the embassy building.

The incident took place in the early afternoon. Police say the man approached the embassy’s security personnel and engaged in a confrontation. During the altercation, he allegedly spat in the face of one of the guards and left the backpack at the scene before fleeing. Bomb disposal experts were called to the location and later confirmed the presence of incendiary materials inside the bag. The area was cordoned off for safety.

The suspect was located and arrested a few hours later. During questioning, he admitted to placing the backpack in front of the embassy. According to reports from Israeli media outlet N12, the man told investigators that he acted “out of anger toward the American government.”

Authorities are currently investigating the motives behind the act. While a politically motivated protest has not been ruled out, officials are also considering the possibility of mental health issues. The U.S. Embassy has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
