Germany Foils Russian-Linked Sabotage Plot Targeting Military Sites

German authorities have uncovered and prevented a sabotage plot allegedly linked to Russian intelligence, involving planned attacks on military and logistics sites used to support Ukraine. The case is being treated as part of Russia’s ongoing hybrid warfare campaign against Western allies.

Two German nationals with dual Russian citizenship were arrested earlier this week. According to federal prosecutors, the suspects had been preparing to carry out explosions at storage and transportation facilities involved in supplying Ukraine with military aid.

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser described the incident as “a new level of hybrid threat from the Russian regime.” She warned that Germany remains a primary target due to its unwavering support for Ukraine, and said Russia appears to be expanding its tactics from cyberattacks and disinformation to direct acts of sabotage on German soil.

Intelligence sources believe the suspects may have been acting under the guidance of Russian security services. Officials said the attacks, if carried out, could have caused serious damage to critical infrastructure and endangered civilian lives.

The arrests come amid a broader wave of concern across Europe regarding covert Russian operations. Similar cases of espionage and sabotage have recently been reported in Poland, the Czech Republic, and the Baltic states.

German officials have called for enhanced international cooperation to counter these threats and are urging EU and NATO partners to increase vigilance.
