Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, reportedly relies on an elite and previously unknown personal security unit after receiving credible threats to his life. According to The Telegraph, the bodyguard team has been heavily vetted to minimize infiltration risk, a necessity amid growing fears fueled by Israel’s recent intelligence successes.
Despite speculation that Khamenei takes refuge in underground bunkers, Tehran sources say he continues his duties within the capital—though his precise location and the existence of this clandestine unit remain tightly guarded secrets.
These measures reflect serious anxiety within the Iranian leadership following a string of high-profile Israeli operations—especially the killing of key commanders and nuclear scientists. Israel’s Defence Minister Katz openly asserted that Khamenei “cannot continue to exist,” while former U.S. President Trump confirmed that Washington knows Khamenei’s whereabouts, though it has no current plans to act.
The Telegraph reports that even senior officers within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were unaware of this secret protection unit, which was created precisely to avoid leaks.
As Israel’s campaign continues, including strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear personnel and facilities, Khamenei, age 86, faces a critical challenge—secure his life while maintaining his political authority.
