Iran has officially declared that further negotiations with the United States regarding its nuclear program have become meaningless following Israel’s large-scale military strike on Iranian territory.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, the attack could not have taken place without Washington’s approval, and the diplomatic process has been compromised by what he described as the “Zionist regime.”
“The other side — the United States — has acted in a way that renders dialogue meaningless. One cannot speak of negotiations while simultaneously allowing Israel to strike our territory,” Baghaei was quoted as saying by the semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim.
The diplomat also emphasized that Israel had “achieved its objective” and dismantled the diplomatic initiative, which, according to Tehran, had been under discussion in Muscat. The round of talks scheduled for June 15 now appears to be canceled.
The Israeli strike, carried out overnight on June 13, is being described as the largest assault on Iranian territory in the history of the two countries’ rivalry. Under the operation codenamed “Am KeLavi,” Israeli forces targeted numerous strategic sites, including underground nuclear facilities in Natanz and Iranian military depots. According to official Iranian sources, the airstrikes resulted in at least 78 deaths and more than 300 injuries.
The following day, Iran responded with a large-scale counterattack, launching hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones at Israel. Despite the activation of Israel’s air defense systems, several projectiles struck densely populated areas in the center of the country, causing civilian casualties.
Meanwhile, the United States has denied direct involvement in Israel’s actions. A State Department spokesperson stated that Washington had not coordinated the Israeli strike and continued to support a diplomatic solution. However, President Donald Trump, in an interview with Fox News, acknowledged that the U.S. was aware of Israel’s plans in advance, calling the strike “an act of inevitable self-defense.”
Amid rising tensions, Iranian officials have taken a hardline stance. “As long as the United States supports aggression against our country, no dialogue is possible,” Baghaei said.
“We will not allow diplomacy to be replaced with missiles,” he added.
