A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a devastating house fire in the Brent district of northwest London that claimed the lives of a woman and her three children. The incident occurred in the early hours of May 24, 2025, on Tillett Close in the Stonebridge area.
The victims have been identified as a 43-year-old mother, her 15-year-old daughter, and two sons aged 8 and 4. All four were rescued from the second floor of the residence but were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other family members—a woman in her 70s and a teenage girl—were taken to hospital. Their conditions have not been disclosed.
The suspect was detained at the scene and remains in police custody. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the cause and circumstances of the fire. No further details about his relationship to the victims have been released at this stage.
According to the London Fire Brigade, eight fire engines and approximately 70 firefighters responded to the blaze, which caused significant damage to two adjoining three-storey terraced houses. The fire was brought under control by around 3:25 AM.
The tragedy has shocked the local community. Brent Council has opened a rest center for displaced families, while Mayor Sadiq Khan and MP Dawn Butler have expressed condolences and pledged support for those affected.
The Metropolitan Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact officers at the scene or call 101.
