In a tense and closely contested presidential election in Poland, both leading candidates have claimed victory based on preliminary exit polls. Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, the liberal centrist backed by the ruling coalition, appeared to lead by a narrow margin and publicly declared his win.
Trzaskowski, affiliated with Poland’s liberal center, is believed to have edged out right-wing opponent Karol Niewrótzki, who was supported by the opposition Law and Justice party (PiS). Despite lagging slightly in the polls, Niewrótzki also proclaimed victory in a speech to his supporters.
The situation remains uncertain, as official vote counts are still underway. Polish media have cautioned that the final results could trigger political tension, given the razor-thin difference between the two contenders.
