In the early hours of April 24, 2025, Russian forces launched a large-scale missile and drone assault on Ukraine, targeting the capital city of Kyiv and the northeastern city of Kharkiv. The attacks resulted in the deaths of at 10 people in Kyiv and caused injuries to over 100 individuals, including children and a pregnant woman.
The assault on Kyiv involved a combination of ballistic missiles, “kalibres” and drones, leading to widespread destruction across several districts, including Sviatoshynskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Holosiivskyi, and Podilskyi. Residential buildings were set ablaze, and emergency services reported that at least 42 people were hospitalized due to injuries sustained during the attacks. Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities search for survivors trapped under the rubble.
Among the injured are six children and a pregnant woman. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the casualties and emphasized the severity of the attacks on civilian areas.
Simultaneously, Kharkiv faced a barrage of missile strikes. The attacks in Kharkiv resulted in significant damage to infrastructure and residential areas, although specific casualty figures are yet to be confirmed.
The assaults come amid stalled peace negotiations and increasing calls for a resolution to the conflict.
