On June 5, 2025, Russian forces launched two aerial assaults on Kherson, Ukraine, employing guided bombs that resulted in the complete destruction of the Kherson Regional State Administration building and injuries to multiple civilians. The attacks also inflicted damage on nearby residential structures and public facilities.
The initial strike occurred in the morning, targeting the administration building’s roof and causing significant structural damage. A subsequent afternoon attack led to the building’s total collapse. Regional Governor Oleksandr Prokudin confirmed the destruction and indicated that assessments of casualties were ongoing.
Among the injured was Yurii Sobolevskyi, First Deputy Head of the Kherson Regional Council, who sustained a concussion and blast-related trauma. Despite his injuries, Sobolevskyi declined hospitalization, citing prior commitments. He characterized the strikes as acts of terrorism, noting that the targeted building had been non-operational and was situated near residential areas.
The airstrikes also affected civilian infrastructure, including apartment complexes and educational institutions. Reports indicate that a 74-year-old man was hospitalized with blast injuries, and emergency services rescued four individuals from a damaged basement.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks, stating they served no military purpose and underscored the need for decisive international action to halt Russian aggression.
Defense Minister Rustem Umerov reported that, within a 24-hour period, Russia executed a series of attacks across multiple Ukrainian regions, deploying 103 drones and a ballistic missile. In Pryluky, a drone strike claimed the lives of a mother, her one-year-old child, and the child’s grandmother. In Kharkiv, at least 19 individuals, including children, were injured in a separate drone attack.
Umerov labeled these actions as systematic efforts to annihilate the Ukrainian populace, urging the international community to implement stringent sanctions, enforce diplomatic isolation of Russia, and provide timely military assistance to Ukraine.
