The Saudi newspaper Independent Arabia, citing senior Syrian sources, reported that Israel and Syria are expected to sign a security agreement on September 25 under U.S. auspices. The agreement is scheduled to be signed the day after President Ahmed al-Sharaa delivers his first speech at the United Nations General Assembly.
According to the sources, the agreement will serve as a security measure aimed at reducing tensions between Jerusalem and Damascus. However, a comprehensive peace agreement between the two countries is not expected in the near future.
In addition, Sky News Arabia, citing its own sources, reported that the U.S. is working to organize a meeting between al-Sharaa and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which is expected to be attended by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The channel also reported progress in negotiations held this week in Paris between Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer and Syrian Foreign Minister Asad al-Sheibani. However, the main sticking point remains Israel’s desire to maintain a presence at several strategic sites in Syria.
