Switzerland will officially designate Hamas as a banned organization starting May 15, according to a government announcement released this week. The decision comes amid ongoing international efforts to curb the group’s operations and financial networks in Europe.
The Swiss Federal Council stated that the move aims to reinforce the country’s commitment to fighting terrorism and align its national policy with that of key international partners. The ban includes any form of support, funding, or propaganda for the group, and violations may result in criminal prosecution.
The decision follows similar steps taken by several European nations and reflects a tightening stance on groups classified as terrorist organizations by the European Union and the United States.
