On May 26, 2025, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, and France have collectively lifted restrictions on the range of weapons supplied to Ukraine. This policy shift permits Kyiv to utilize Western-supplied long-range missiles to strike targets within Russian territory.
Chancellor Merz stated that there are no longer any limitations on the types of weapons supplied to Ukraine by these nations, emphasizing the need to bolster Ukraine’s defensive capabilities. This move enables Ukraine to employ advanced missile systems such as the U.S.-made ATACMS, British Storm Shadow, and French SCALP missiles against strategic military targets inside Russia.
In addition to lifting range restrictions, Germany is reportedly considering supplying Ukraine with Taurus long-range cruise missiles. These missiles, known for their extended range and precision, would significantly enhance Ukraine’s ability to target critical sites deep within enemy territory.
The potential delivery of Taurus missiles reflects a broader move by Ukraine’s partners to keep sensitive military support undisclosed for operational security.
