The U.S. State Department has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale to Estonia, involving Javelin missiles and related equipment, with an estimated cost of $296 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale on May
The proposed sale includes 800 FGM-148F Javelin missiles and 72 Lightweight Command Launch Units (LwCLUs), along with associated equipment, training, and support services.
The principal contractors for this sale are the Javelin Joint Venture, a partnership between RTX Corporation and Lockheed Martin.
According to the DSCA, the proposed sale will enhance Estonia’s capability to meet current and future threats by providing a credible force capable of deterring adversaries and participating in NATO operations. It will also support Estonia’s goal of improving national and territorial defense as well as interoperability with U.S. and NATO forces.
The Javelin missile system is a man-portable, fire-and-forget anti-tank weapon that uses infrared guidance to destroy armored vehicles and fortifications. It has been widely used by U.S. and allied forces and has proven effective in various combat scenarios.
The sale is subject to congressional approval. If finalized, it will mark a significant step in U.S.-Estonia defense cooperation and contribute to the security of the Baltic region.
